Rectangle Bloc Loc

Posted on February 08, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

This quilt was so fun to make!  We have a class that will teach you everything you need to know!

The fabric line is called Up Parasol by Heather Bailey, and let me tell you - it is even more beautiful in person!

The technique is simple, and using the Rectangle Bloc_Loc Ruler made this quilt super fast to complete!

I can't believe I'm the only one missing spring right now… if you are too, go ahead and check out this beautiful Up Parasol fabric (you're welcome).

Pillow Love

Posted on February 06, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

I love making pillows, and what better than to make than a pillow about Love?  This time of year has me longing for spring; the birds chirping, the flowers blooming and of course the warm temperatures.  We're not quite there yet, but these colors sure do make me happy!

The white pillow was made using Moda's Chenille fabric, and let me tell you it is heavenly to work with (like all of Moda is).  The triangle pillow uses Bella Solids by Moda, there are so many color choices to choose from it was hard to limit it just to three colors!

I used the AccuCut for the triangles, I typically cut all those out by hand so it was quite the treat to use the AccuCut.  It took me a fraction of the time to cut all those triangles out (if you can even call it cutting!)  That little AccuCut cuts through six layers at one time!  Speedy indeed.

Sewing those triangles were pretty easy too, the AccuCut cuts the notches in there!  Makes lining up the triangles a synch!

I had so much fun making these pillows, I may just need to have one for every holiday.  Yes, I think I will need one for every Holiday!

Looking for pillow covers?  Check out our store and see what we have in stock!

Update: If you are looking for the chenille we used for our Love pillow we now have it listed in our store!

Baby Safari Quilt

Posted on February 03, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

We ordered the most adorable line, that has the cutest little panel!  This is Safari by Deborah Edwards, made for Northcott.

It's the perfect size panel, measuring 36" x 40" (width of fabric).

We just had to make one for the store so everyone could see just how sweet it is!   We used one of our favorite quilting patterns, Feathered Ferns.  It just seemed to be the perfect quilting pattern to mimic the border.

The binding is a cheerful green gingham!  In fact, I can't seem to get enough of this cheery quilt!

We have this very Safari quilt featured in our gift store if you are looking for the perfect, already made quilt.  *Update* This quilt has been sold, however there is another available in our gift shop that has a yellow chevron backing.  Make sure you check it out, it's just as adorable as the original!

We are so excited to announce that Bonnie Christine is coming to our store for a Trunk Show!! Yes, you read that right, our own little shop in Belmont will have a celebrity!

We hope you can join us on Tuesday, February 18th at 2pm.  Bonnie will be here to debut her fabrics and pattern line with a beautiful trunk show, and a lecture/demo style presentation that will feature several great techniques and tools! Bonnie will also be sharing about the process of fabric design and open it up for a question and answer session before closing with a free giveaway!

Have you seen her new fabric line Sweet as Honey?  It is AMAZING!  It's really nice to look at on a day like today... when we get 8 inches of snow.  Although some of us don't mind the snow...

Her new line has such a nice feeling of spring, the colors are so fresh and warm!  In fact, we liked it so much that we ordered her whole line!

Two Baby Quilts in One Week

Posted on January 16, 2014 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

Sometimes life gets so busy I forget how much I miss sewing when I'm away from it.  Well, I was lucky enough to break away from my hectic schedule to make two baby quilts; in one week at that!  I loved every minute of it.  The pattern I decided to go with was super quick and easy, can't go wrong with a good old fashioned Rail Fence quilt pattern.

My first quilt made was for a sweet little girl that was born the day after Christmas.  Her parents were keeping the sex of the baby a secret, so they chose gender neutral colors of teal and gold for her room.  That was perfect, because we have two color ways in Minimalista by Art Gallery Fabrics - you guessed it, gold and teal!

I love how it turned out, simple, classic, yet playful!

I'm happy to report the quilt has made it to it's new home and is well loved.

Next on my list, which has been on my list for sometime... was a quilt for baby Lily.  Lilly is already seven months old... where does the time go??  To keep things going at a fast pace and since the Rail Fence was so fun to do, I made another one just like Kirby's.  Lily's room is gorgeous shades of pink and aqua.  If you know me, you know I love Bonnie and Camille fabric.  Scrumptious was the perfect line to use, aqua, pink and green.  LOVE. IT.

I selected a simple but elegant quilting design called meandering feathers, which I'm sure you'll be seeing more of.

I thought this was the perfect fabric for binding.  I love stripes, and even better they are already printed diagonal so I don't have to cut it on the bias!

Sewing binding by hand is for the birds, or at least that's what this someone thinks that doesn't like doing hand work.  Any binding done by hand on my quilts will most likely be done by my mom (thanks mom).

May your days be filled with sewing!
