Welcome to our first
New Fabric is Coming, New Fabric is Coming announcement! Here at the cottage, we are already planning on what to do with these new designs. Over the next few months we will be seeing more and more lines come into the shop from great designers like Sweetwater, Basic Grey, and Joel Dewberry. On Tuesday we begin the fun with the arrival of some "Mini Moda" deliveries from Kate Spain, Sandy Gervais, and Lila Tueller. Be sure to check back as we post fabric and projects to our site!
Time to go run in circles!!

Every once and a while, as our schedules permit, Jenn and I spend the day together around town. For us, this usually consists going out to breakfast or lunch, and then swinging by a couple of the local stores to window shop (quilt shops, Target, Lowe's...the list is quite long!).
Today turned out to be a little different. Instead of shopping (although the day isn't over yet), we went by the
cottage to work on some of our projects. Jenn started the day by working on a scrap bag of fabric from a line that we are (eagerly) awaiting to be delivered called
Frolic by Sandy Gervais. We were both amazed by the shear size of the quilt that she was able to make from just one bag.
Now for some yardage to finish it up!
Other projects on the list today?
- Recover from yesterday's yardwork.
- Finish up 2 charity quilts to send for the Japan relief effort (from our buy-one-give-one effort).
- Housekeeping items for the cottage
- Falling victim to our sweet dog's plead for a walk around the block. How could we say no to a face like that??
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Inspiration can strike without warning (never a bad thing, right?)
...so how do you prepare yourself? With a notebook? Absolutely! Whether I am out for dinner
with family, or running errands, I always seem to find ideas for a quilt design
or a potential future project, but forget the details later. The solution is
simple: a little notebook! I like to keep a small notebook in my purse, and welcome
the inspiration when it comes!
Here are some of the ways that I use my inspiration notebook:
Have your current project's fabric samples with you. Cut fabric swatches and
staple (or tape) them to the inside of your notebook - that way if you run into
a sale you have your fabric at arm’s reach to coordinate it.
Jot down project ideas. Write down
ideas you may have seen or something you would like to interpret into a
quilt
Record measurements. I had an
idea for a bread machine cover for my kitchen, but when I went to start
working on it I didn't have the measurements. Next time they will be in
the notebook!
Take ideas from magazines, greeting
cards, architecture…even food! Draw a picture of
something that inspires you. you would like to put into a quilt, list of
supplies needed for a future project but not needing to rush right out and
get it, etc.
Shopping list. Never end
up ready to start your project and come to find that you forgot something
and have to rush out to get it.
