UFO Friday - Bonnie and Camille Sampler Quilt

Posted on April 22, 2016 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

I have missed doing UFO Fridays and I'm happy to be back plugging away at some half finished projects (and believe me, I have enough where I could do them every Friday for the rest of my life)!

If you're new here, UFO Fridays are where you carve out 15 minutes of your day to work on a UFO (Unfinished Object), with the objective of finishing it up!  I work on the same UFO every Friday until it's finished.  So far I have completed three UFO's, although two aren't quilted so technically I guess that isn't completely accurate.

So what's on this week's UFO list?  My Bonnie and Camille Sampler Quilt!  I took part in a little swap on Instagram.  Each month you made two blocks and sent them out, and you received two blocks in return.  The only stipulation was a 12.5" block and it had to use Bonnie and Camille fabrics.

Look at all these beautiful blocks!  I was so excited to put them together that I even brought them to a sewing retreat a few weekends ago and got the sashing finished!

I love every single block in here, it's so well balanced.  All of these ladies were wonderful partners, sending high quality blocks, unique designs and best of all they were all sent on time!

So today, I started with 15 minutes and probably worked more like an hour (one of the benefits to UFO Friday is just getting the momentum to get started!) putting on my borders.  The blue with dots is the sashing and the lovely Pears in Cream print is my outer border.

On our retreat, we did a little local quilt shopping.  You really never know what kind of goodies you're going to find a small quilt stores.  I found this gem, Bliss from Bonnie and Camille in flannel.  Oh, my, gosh it is soooo soft!!  I new instantly it was to be used for my backing on this quilt, I even took it home to wash it last night.  It's all ready to be longarmed now!

UFO Friday - Bonnie and Camille Scrappy Log Cabin Completed!

Posted on March 04, 2016 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

It's Friday and I'm back to working on my UFO's!  I do hope you join me in finishing up some projects, not only does it feel great to finish them up but I'm really enjoying using them when they're finished!

So here it is, my scrappy Bonnie and Camille Log Cabin quilt is finished!  You can look back on my progress - block progress, blocks completed and blocks in rows.

This quilt is so special to me, knowing so many women around the world have sewn a different block.  Truly is amazing how so many people can be connected by one hobby!

I sewed each block on point and did inset triangles for the border.  I used Bella Solid Ruby Ice as my background, and found it to be a nice change compared to the white that I'm typically drawn to.

I'm happy to have the top completed, now I just have to figure out what to use for my backing!

UFO Friday - Bonnie and Camille Scrappy Log Cabin In Progress

Posted on November 06, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

It's Friday!  It's rather gloomy and quiet in Belmont today (and warm, did I mention it's 70 degrees on November 6th?!)  I'm picking up where I left off last week with my Bonnie and Camille Scrappy Log Cabin!

Last week all I had were my blocks cut into quarters, this week I'm proud to say that all 49 have been squared up and sashing sewn.  I wanted them sewn on point, so I added a solid 2-1/2"light blue sashing around each block.

I was hoping I would have them sewn in rows, but no such luck.  I'm happy that I made as much progress as I did, I should be able to sew these into rows next Friday!

UFO Friday - Bonnie and Camille Scrappy Log Cabin Blocks

Posted on October 30, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

I find myself excited for Fridays, knowing that I get to spend at least 15 minutes at my sewing machine to work on some UFO's (unfinished objects).  I'm excited to say I finished my Jellybean Boathouse quilt last Friday, so now I get to choose a new UFO!  Get caught up on my UFO mission.

I've decided I would really like to finish my Scrappy B & C Log Cabin Quilt.  While this quilt may not be all that old compared to some of my other UFO's, I'm really looking forward to using it this winter!  I enjoy looking at each block and thinking about the time that someone else spent sewing log cabin blocks that are going to be in my quilt!

This was an Instagram swap, the person who organized it did a fantastic job!  Each person who joined the swap made a 21" x 21" scrappy log cabin block made only out of Bonnie and Camille fabrics, which was then cut into four blocks 10.5" x 10.5".  You kept one quarter from each of the blocks you made and then sent off the rest to be distributed to everyone else.  Once all the blocks were received she did her magic swapping and mailed them back.  I think we ended up with 32 blocks for our quilt!

She was so organized, and generous with her time.  I know it must have taken her forever to receive everyone's blocks, log them, swap them and mail them back!  I sure did have fun, and I really like the look of the quilt.  Can't wait to start making some progress on this one!

Bonnie and Camille Swap Buddy

Posted on October 16, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

I was recently in a block of the month swap called I heart B and C Sampler on Instagram, and in that group everyone was assigned a name to do a "Swap Buddy".  The swap buddy completed a survey of their favorite items (and least favorite) and the person making the gift could go off of that survey.

My survey said that I wanted a mini quilt, and I would love it to be Miss Kate because that was the one line of theirs I don't have any of (I know, hard to believe).  Well, she nailed it!  How adorable!! I hit the swap buddy jackpot, everything in there was made with me in mind and it's absolutely perfect.  She was even so thoughtful to include a book for Caleb!

The needle book is so adorable, the details that went into it are amazing.  Hand stitching, embellishment and the colors are perfect.  If it goes missing, I know exactly who took it  < squinty eyes, these eyes are looking at you mom… >

I'm so excited to hang these up in my sewing room, my empty wall will look so much better!

Thank you so much Emily!  It is more than I could have ever wished for, I love everything!

Harvest Home Quilt Kit

Posted on October 16, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

We recently made this quilt for a store display, the pattern is called Harvest Home.  It turned out so cute that we decided to offer kits for it.

Most of the fabric it is a variety of Bonnie and Camille, with a few other favorites mixed in.  This quilt is perfect for fall, but doesn't scream autumn.  Sometimes, if you're like me and not ready for winter to come, a subtle holiday quilt can ease you into the chilly weather that's approaching.

We used one of our favorite quilting designs, called Adagio.

I've always wanted a house with a red door, apparently my subconscious remembered when I was picking out fabrics!

We are offering kits in a limited quantity, once they're gone they're gone; so make sure you don't wait too long if you want one!

Details:
Pattern: Harvest Home
Fabric: A variety of Bonnie and Camille, Harvest Home Kits are available which also includes the pattern

Goody Goody Binding Kit Completed

Posted on July 28, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

So here is my completed Goody Goody Binding Kit, I used a mixture of Bonnie and Camille fabrics ranging from Vintage Modern to Daysail (see this post for more on that).  It was so fun to make, and could easily be made using scraps!  The Goody Goody Binding Kit is an all in one, take on the go, space saver for your binding materials.

The inside has a zippered pocket to keep your binding clips, a pocket to hold your scissors (which I modified mine, make sure you check out Vanessa's sweet little strawberry!), a needle and thread holder and a "goody" pocket.  Vanessa put candy bar treats in hers, mine on the other hand is still a candy, just of a different persuasion.

I used the green striped fabric from the April Showers line, I need to buy a whole bunch of yardage of that so I can use it on every binding!

I mean really, if this kit doesn't make you want to bind something I'm not sure what will!

There is still a sew along happening on Instagram, make sure to tag your Goody Goody Binding Kit photos #goodygoodysewalong so we can follow your progress.  You can find us on Instagram @jennthurston
