Festive Flurries Quilt

Posted on December 07, 2016 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

Have you ever seen one of those striking quilts in a magazine that you can't get out of your head?  You just HAVE to make it right now??

This is one of those quilts!  It is made with The Cookie Exchange by Sweetwater Fabrics, and uses the cutest, detailed tiny prints, making it perfect for piecing in a quilt!

The quilt went very quick, and I think even a beginner could make it.  I wanted something a little smaller than what was featured in the magazine, so I only made 16 blocks.  It's a great wall hanging size, table topper, lap quilt or a perfect baby quilt size!

Figuring out what to quilt it with was just as fun as making it!  I chose wool batting and Holly and Berries as the quilt design.

The wool batting always makes the quilting show up with so much more detail.  Did you know that even after you fold and pack away your quilt until next year, the crease from being folded all year long doesn't permanently stay in the quilt like other battings do(you don't even need to steam it out!)!

We still have a nice selection of magazines remaining as well as all the fabric to make this quilt!

I also made a fabric basket because I couldn't help myself!  We have kits available for the fabric basket!  This fabric is so cute!!  It is one of my favorite holiday lines, but then again I am a Sweetwater fan... so the next line that comes out from them I may say the very same thing!

So here it is hanging as the store display.  Is it just me, or is there something so fun and satisfying about hanging up a holiday quilt that you just finished?!

Home Table Runner

Posted on April 09, 2012 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

Hometown by Sweetwater has to be one of my favorite lines (although I think I say that everytime I see a new line from them...).  I had the perfect project picked out to feature the fabric and luckily I had some extra time to sew this weekend.

The pattern is called Home and can be found in My Runners by Disa Designs.  There are several great patterns in this book, this will be the third table runner I have made from this book.

It's the perfect size to sit at our register counter and greet our customers.

If anyone is interested in a kit just let us know, we have some ready but they haven't been posted to our website yet.

Ready for a Reunion?

Posted on March 23, 2012 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

I absolutely love the Reunion line by Sweetwater!  It is so adorable with all the small details, for instance the bunting fabric uses the actual prints in the line for it's different buntings!  I can't hide that I have always been a Sweetwater fan, but they have really out done themselves with this line!  Even the names of the fabrics are cute, like Graphite Sally's Skirt or Ink Nora's news.  Check out how Sweetwater came up with their names for the line.

Check out our fat quarter bundles!  There's a good variety in each one, some day soon I'll show you what I made from 12 fat quarters.
We also have our yardage and precuts posted for Reunion.

This is just one of the quilts I made with those 12 lovely fat quarters, the pattern is called Wild Thing by Thimble Blossoms.  A great pattern for beginners, easy, quick and only uses two charm packs!

The other three quilts are just as cute (yep, I said three, making a total of four quilts from only 12 fat quarters and background fabric...)

Block of the Month - Countdown to Christmas

Posted on November 19, 2011 by David Thurston | 1 comment

Countdown to Christmas Block of the Month"Countdown to Christmas" is our first 'Block of the Month' program for Quilted Thimble Cottage. It is a sampler-style quilt with blocks designed by several Moda fabric designers. Each block offered a unique way to show off Sweetwater's Countdown to Christmas fabric line, with its array of traditional colors and patterns. Our program offered folks the opportunity to quilt through 12 blocks in 4 months. Each person was encouraged to complete 3 of the 12 blocks per month, and if they did they would get an entry into a drawing to have their project quilted for free! We had 8 folks entered into the drawing, with 30 entries. We used this list, along with a random number generator to select our winner.

Congratulations to Joan McClure

We have the chance to see her beautiful quilt top after she was able to complete it at a recent quilt camp, and it is gorgeous! Everyone else that participated in the Block of the Month program will receive 10% off their project's quilting!

Thanks to everyone that participated - you all are so talented and ambitious! We have another exciting program starting in January. It is a Mystery Block of the Month that will run through 2012. We will offer you a choice of two colorways, and reveal each block along the way! Stay tuned for more news on that next month!
