New Arrival - Fresh Cut by BasicGrey

Posted on March 11, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

I have tried to use some restraint and not share this fabric line (so I could keep it all myself!), but I decided to let you in on the secret.  Let me introduce you to Fresh Cut by BasicGrey, this is the most beautiful spring line I have seen in quite some time.

It is no secret that I am a BasicGrey fan, but boy did they out do themselves with this beautiful line.  I mean come on, look at these gorgeous spring colors!  I pulled a few of my favorites to show you how well they all play together...

Moda Bakeshop has a great idea on what to make with this fabric.  This gorgeous quilt can be made using one charm pack and one jelly roll precut plus background fabric.  And did I mention this pattern is FREE?  Just visit the Moda Bakeshop and download it, and after you make it feel free to send me the quilt!

We also have all the precuts for this line, make sure you hurry if you want any… I can't guarantee I won't buy them all!

Up Parasol Baby Quilt

Posted on March 06, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

I'm not sure if I have mentioned just how much I love this Up Parasol line by Heather Bailey!

You might recall that I have made a quilt from this fabric before, rectangles in all their glory.

The fabric screams spring, I absolutely can't get enough of all these nice warm colors!  Just gorgeous....

I went with the Lacy Swirls, one of my favorite quilting designs!

Very easy pattern, just strips sewn together and then cut in blocks with sashing in between.  What a easy, quick quilt to make!

This quilt measures 36" x 36", the perfect baby size quilt.  If you're interested in purchasing this quilt, we have it for sale in our gift shop.

Baby Swoon Quilt

Posted on March 05, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

This Swoon baby quilt is made from the new Hello Bear line by Bonnie Christine, featuring the most adorable animal print you have ever seen.

One block is 24" x 24", so add a border on and you have a quick one block baby quilt!  For this quilt, I added a inner border of 1 1/2" finished and outer border of 4 1/2" finished making the quilt size 36" x 36".

I used an all over wavy design, I think it looks like the wind blowing!  Instead of using my normal white thread, I decided to go with a light grey thread.

The backing however, is my absolute favorite!  The prints are so cute, featuring raccoons, deer and of course bears!

The pattern used is called Swoon by Thimble Blossoms, and it's fat quarter friendly!

Hatchet Quilt

Posted on February 27, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

This is a Hatchet quilt we made some time ago, it features Papillon by 3 Sisters.  Unfortunately we only have about two prints remaining from that collection, but lucky for you Moda reprinted some of the map prints from the line and added several more.  It's called Passport, and that fabric would be splendid in this pattern!

The great thing about this quilt (besides that it's easy and fast!) is that it is charm pack friendly!  We didn't even use a whole charm pack to make this sweet table topper!

The blocks go together so easily, and deciding on the layout is half the fun!  You can choose a more structured look, like putting all the pinks to make one square, all the blues to make another, etc.  Or you can go with a random layout, that is what we went with.

To make this quilt, we utilized Creative Grids ruler The Charming Square Hatchet Template.  Like I mentioned before, perfect for a single charm pack (or even half a pack) or for those scraps you aren't sure what to do with.

We quilted it with daisies and butterflies, perfect reminder of that spring weather I'm sure we're all missing right about now!

I hope you have fun making a Hatchet Quilt, we would love to see pictures if you use the Hatchet Ruler!

For the Birds

We have this sweet line called Feather N Stitch by Sarah Watts and I have been dying to make something from it, lucky (or unlucky) for me I don't have to because one of our customers made this beautiful quilt from it!

She used a churn dash block and put sashing between the blocks.  If you've never made a churn dash block but would like to, there's a great tutorial on how to make a churn dash block by Sherri at A Quilting Life.

This customer likes a basic quilting design, so we chose a loop design.  It's a nice, subtle, well spaced quilt design that doesn't compete with the blocks of the quilt.

I also love how she made the bird houses in the sashing go the same direction, and the birds fussy cut in the centers of the block… just perfection.  So pleased we get to hang it in our store for a while, it may "get lost in transit" ... and end up on my bed!

Serenade Quilt Projects

Posted on February 19, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

I'm not sure why I haven't shared our Serenade quilt projects sooner, I'm in love with how quick and easy this quilt came together!

This quilt uses fat quarters and background fabric, it's a great stash buster.  The pattern is from Large Block Quilts by Victoria L Eapen (I want to make every single pattern in this awesome book!).  The fabric is Serenade by Kate Spain, she really has great fabrics doesn't she?!

We quilted it with a Chestnut Swirl pattern, one of my all time favorites!  I love how the curves in the chestnuts really soften the squares, you should try it - you won't be disappointed!

We still have a great selection remaining if you're interested in making your own Serenade quilt!

There were a few scraps remaining from the Serenade quilt; and if you know anything about me, it's that I cannot let scraps go to waste.  This is Puddle Jumping Mini by Thimble Blossoms, and it seriously only takes bits and pieces of fabric!  Not a good stash buster, the pieces are so small you'll have no idea any of your scraps are even missing (unless of course you make a King size quilt, and in that case I want to bow at your feet)!  Anyways, it's two great patterns from one great line!

Self Binding Baby Blanket

Posted on February 15, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

I recently received a request from a friend to make a baby blanket.  Luckily for me she wanted it out of flannel, usually I would wonder what I could make from this soft, luscious flannel we carry.  Not this time… I knew exactly what I was going to make!  A self binding baby blanket!

Now before you go running for the hills, hear me out.  It's super simple to make, in fact I have made three of them.  Two for friends and one for a store display, so trust me when I say the first one is always the hardest.

I used this self binding blanket tutorial, I thought the directions were clear and easy to understand and best of all it has great photos.  Flannel works great, but you could substitute with brushed cotton.  I used Wee Ones by Tim and Beck, but Storybook by Kate and Birdie or Mixed Bag by Studio M would be oh so cute too!

So go ahead, give it a try!  You won't be sorry!  I mean, really - look at these perfect corners!  So quick and easy!
