Hello everyone! I'm excited to announce our second Charity Sewathon! This is our way of giving back to those in need, the type of projects will range from month to month. The first month we did stacked coins, the second we are doing these "wonky" blocks, the third may be something completely different (I have to keep you on your toes somehow)!
The kits are all cut and ready to go, we have a variety of fabric for both boys and girls. If you would like to bring some of your stash to make a charity quilt, the more the better!

It's a very easy pattern, really great for beginners and just plain fun for everyone. The finished size is approximately 31" x 46" making it perfect for a little guy/girl to bring with them where ever they go!

We quilted this one with a loose swirl design, one of my favorite basic designs.

So here are the details I know you have been waiting for me to finally get to:
- We have a Charity Sewathon the Third Wednesday of every month, so put in on your calendar now to remind you!
The sewing hours are from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm and the evening session beginning at 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm (of course you can come and sew for as short as you would like, we're not going to tie you down until it's time to go!)
- Use our kits or bring your own fabric, this quilt requires 6 different colors 10" x WOF (width of fabric). Yep - that's all this quilt takes, just a little more than a yard and a half of fabric!
- Rotary cutter and ruler if you have one, saves you from waiting in line.
- Sewing machine if you have one. Otherwise you may get volunteered to do cutting and pressing (which is actually quite fun on this project)!
- The quilts will go to a variety of places, orphanages, children's hospitals or areas affected by natural disasters. Don't fret, we will post the completed quilts along with their final destinations so you can see who your quilt brings great joy to.
We hope you can join us and look forward to helping those in need.
* Update - Here's a link for the Wonky Block tutorial!

Meet one of our newest collections called Flirt by Sandy Gervais. One of the many prints this line offers is a fun and whimsical panel featuring two sweet blue birds perched up high.

One of my favorite features in the quilt is the checkerboard around the inner border, reminds me of ribbon that's been woven.

The panel comes with two of the same prints, so the options are really endless of all the things you could do with it! The pattern uses the second panel as appliqué in the corners, which I think is a great idea and really adds a lot of detail without all that really tedious layering!

Last but not least is a close up of our backing. We used a bella solid for the backing and a neutral thread which really features the outline of hearts nicely. I just love the way it turned out!

This is the third quilt I have made with the disappearing four patch pattern. I love this pattern; quick, easy and takes a handful of 10" x 10" squares (I used 12 colored and 12 white to make this nice toddler bed size).
I made this quilt for my neighbor who is having her second child, which they are naming Miles!
Bungle Jungle was the perfect line for baby Miles, his room has the most vibrant green walls! I know the blues, greens and grey's in this line will compliment his room perfectly.

I bought this cute Hippo embroidery design from Urban Threads, I put him smack on the back of the quilt so it wasn't so plain. Now, no matter which side they have showing will be cute!

I'm going to try to break my habit of using the disappearing four patch, time to try some other patterns... maybe...

A friend of mine is having their first baby, which they were keeping the gender of the baby a secret until they could tell their families. That left me in a small predicament since the baby shower was coming right up and I wasn't sure which color way to use. Have you seen the new line from Julie Comstock called Odds and Ends? It is PRECIOUS! I thought it was the perfect line to make baby gifts for either a boy or a girl.
There are these really cute "labels" that I thought would be perfect for an autograph changing mat. More on that later, I'm still waiting for these lovely autograph squares to make their way back to me.

I thought the left over labels would make a great bib and burp clothes (which I hear you can never have enough of).

These burp cloths went together so fast! Simple and sweet, perfect for a baby boy or girl!

I picked up a pack of bibs at Ikea that are plain white with these colorful bindings around them. I thought this one picked up the green in the You and Me label perfectly. I have to say this one is my favorite!

Last thing I made was this little outfit. I took a plain onsie and appliquéd this Faith label and made some coordinating pants with ruffles from the Britches and Bloomers pattern. If you have the need to make kids pants, I highly recommend this easy pattern! It's great for beginner sewers with ruffle or cuff bottoms and a elastic waist band.

I think this is the quickest baby gift I have made in a long time, and it has such a cute charm with those sweet labels. If you want to see how these are made, check out the tutorial!

I made the cutest little baby gifts the other weekend from these labels and thought I would post a quick tutorial.

So here's what you need:
Here are the adorable labels I used from the Odds and Ends line.

Start by cutting out which label you want to use.

Cut around the label so just the inner border is remaining.
Measure the label, cut the same size of Heat and Bond. Apply the Heat and Bond to the wrong side of the label by following the manufacturers directions.

Once the Heat and Bond is ironed on, trim all the excess Heat and Bond away so the label is clean around the edges.

Remove the Heat and Bond paper off the back, place on the item you want to appliqué. Press with the iron following Heat and Bond manufacturers directions.
Stitch around the edge of the label, I used a coordinating brown thread and a tight zig zag stitch.

Pull the tales to the back and knot.

And just like that you're done, baby gift ready to go! Hope you enjoy!

Please join us for some charity quilt sewing! We had two rather large baskets of scraps that needed to be sorted through, I spent the good part of a Saturday doing just that.

Now that they are sorted, let's get to sewing some charity quilts!

Please join us on the third Wednesday of the month from 1:00pm - 4:00pm or if you can't make that time we will also have an evening session from 5:00pm - 8:00pm. Just bring your machine and some thread, we'll provide all the fabric! Help us use our scraps for a good cause!
