Sassy Flying Geese

Posted on April 02, 2012 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

Remember all these flying geese?  Well, I have one small table topper done, and only about 1,000 flying geese remaining!  I do love using all my scraps, but I think I will have take a small break and come back to the rest of the flying geese.  I'm feeling like something, well anything other than flying geese right now!

Here's how it turned out, I'm quite happy with it.  It's a great size for a patio table - I can picture it now, me and my quilt relaxing in the shade with a cold glass of lemonade...

This little table topper was made with less than one charm pack, and did I mention still plenty of flying geese left?

This beautiful fabric is from the Sassy line by Sandy Gervais.  We have precuts and yardage available, it's the perfect line for summer.  It would also make a darling apron with the fruit pattern!

Schnibbles Parade featuring Bibelot

Posted on March 30, 2012 by Jenn Thurston | 2 comments

I have always wanted to participate in the Schnibbles parade but never could quite commit to completing the quilt in time.  This month their featuring the Bibelot pattern which really appeals to me because the blocks look like "T"s.  My excuse to keep this quilt is because it has my last name initial is all over it, unfortunately my mom can say the same thing - I hope she doesn't claim it as her own with the same logic!

I decided to use the beautiful Hello Luscious line by BasicGrey.  I had fun putting all these nice pinks and greens together, I think the fabric really features the pattern nicely.

I used a large paisley design for the quilting, it mimics some of the fabric designs.  The backing is my favorite print in the whole line, I just couldn't resist using it!

Sadly it's too late to participate in the Schnibbles parade for March (unless you're a super human quilter and can get a whole top pieced in one night...) but you can always join along next month, I'm sure it will be just as fabulous of a pattern!

Ready for a Reunion?

Posted on March 23, 2012 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

I absolutely love the Reunion line by Sweetwater!  It is so adorable with all the small details, for instance the bunting fabric uses the actual prints in the line for it's different buntings!  I can't hide that I have always been a Sweetwater fan, but they have really out done themselves with this line!  Even the names of the fabrics are cute, like Graphite Sally's Skirt or Ink Nora's news.  Check out how Sweetwater came up with their names for the line.

Check out our fat quarter bundles!  There's a good variety in each one, some day soon I'll show you what I made from 12 fat quarters.
We also have our yardage and precuts posted for Reunion.

This is just one of the quilts I made with those 12 lovely fat quarters, the pattern is called Wild Thing by Thimble Blossoms.  A great pattern for beginners, easy, quick and only uses two charm packs!

The other three quilts are just as cute (yep, I said three, making a total of four quilts from only 12 fat quarters and background fabric...)

Grand Finale Display

This weekend was the start of 90 degree weather here in Belmont, NC - and you won't hear a single complaint from Jenn about it. This kind of weather makes for a fun (and busy) weekend filled with quilting, working around the shop, and ice cream!

This past week we received our order of Sandy Gervais' Grand Finale line from Moda, and almost immediately we were all finding ways to use the deep, warm colors and prints in a project. Although we are a small shop, we still find a reason to dress it up a bit from time to time. There is a space near the front door that we kind of consider our mantel. We like to showcase one of the fabric lines we have available, and showcase a little creativity. For Grand Finale, Jenn made from the panel print, along with part of a charm pack. The half circles are incredible, and the turquoise along with the golds makes this little corner of the shop look like fall. Above the quilt is a little banner I made (yeah, that's right - David has a little skill!). It was fun to work with the scraps from Jenn's charm pack, a 1/4 yard of the orange (for the back of the bunting) and some scrap Moda marble brown.

So - the heat is rising outside, the air conditioning is running inside...but in a small corner of the shop there could be a nip in the air! Pumpkin carving anyone? ... or watermelon, maybe... ;-)

Fandango!

Posted on April 23, 2011 by David Thurston | 0 comments

Fandango by Kate Spain for ModaOk...so just saying "Fandango" is enough to get the creativity bubbling. When we first got the Fandango collection from Moda, we wondered what the name meant - so we google'd it (of course).

Fandango:

  • A lively Spanish dance for two people, typically accompanied by castanets or tambourine
  • A foolish or useless act or thing

  • Once we started exploring through the the 12 prints from the collection that we are carrying, we knew that this was far from foolish or useless. (USELESS? Not a chance!)

Kate Spain and Moda's description tell it like it is:

Fun and festive meets handcrafted warmth and design in this earthen-inspired Fandango collection. A bright array of spicy detail and lively color mixed with slight Cocina charm, Fandango lets a little sun in to brighten up any project.

So let the sun shine, because Sprint is here and it's time to get to business! :)

You can check out our entire Fandango offering over at our Fabric Shop

    Happy Quilting!
