UFO Friday - The Boat House Quilt Completed!

Posted on October 23, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

I love Fridays, but not just for the typical reason of the weekend… I love them because I have dedicated at least 15 minutes (and sometimes more) every Friday to work on a UFO (unfinished object).  I'm proud to say dedicating this time has allowed me to check one of my UFO's off the list!

So this is Jellybean by Thimble Blossoms featuring The Boat House by Sweetwater.  I have to say, I really like how this one turned out!

Quilting is up next, I think I have decided to go with anchors because how cute would anchors look on this quilt?!

Friendly Gift Swap

Posted on October 20, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 2 comments

I met some great friends at some of the previous The Stash Bash, unfortunately I wasn't able to go to the most recent one this weekend.  Lucky for me our store is right on the way for one of my friends traveling to The Stash Bash, so she had no choice but to swing by!

We decided a few weeks ago to do a fun little swap.  Whatever we felt like making for each other was just perfect.  I recently ran into some fantastic scraps, which I think I'll be making into some scrap packs for the store soon!  I used Pure Elements White Linen by Art Gallery for the background, and let me tell you… if you have never worked with Pure Elements you are missing out!  It is so soft and silky, I think I may just make it my go-to background of choice now!

I of course started to make something for the swap the night before we were supposed to meet.

I decided on Dwell Mini by Thimble Blossoms, but the more the night progressed into the later hours, the more logic sunk in that I wouldn't get the whole wall hanging done in time.  So, I improvised; instead of a wall hanging, I decided to make it into a pouch.

I absolutely love how it turned out, I hope she does too!  I quilted the front and the back with straight line stitching to give it more stability, it stands up without any effort at all.

UFO Friday - The Boat House to be Continued

Posted on October 16, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

It's Friday, so you know what that means… UFO Friday.

So here I am, on week three of UFO Friday, and each Friday I have gotten a little closer to finishing this one up!

I'm so close I can see the finish line!  I have half the rows completed and sewn together, one row with the corner stones completed and all the strips cut into blocks.

This pattern goes pretty quick, so I expect (assuming I can squeeze in a more than 15 minutes on next Friday) I will have a finished quilt top!  Don't forget, you can join in on the fun!  Post your photos on Instagram or on our Facebook page, use hashtag #UFOFridays

Bonnie and Camille Swap Buddy

Posted on October 16, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

I was recently in a block of the month swap called I heart B and C Sampler on Instagram, and in that group everyone was assigned a name to do a "Swap Buddy".  The swap buddy completed a survey of their favorite items (and least favorite) and the person making the gift could go off of that survey.

My survey said that I wanted a mini quilt, and I would love it to be Miss Kate because that was the one line of theirs I don't have any of (I know, hard to believe).  Well, she nailed it!  How adorable!! I hit the swap buddy jackpot, everything in there was made with me in mind and it's absolutely perfect.  She was even so thoughtful to include a book for Caleb!

The needle book is so adorable, the details that went into it are amazing.  Hand stitching, embellishment and the colors are perfect.  If it goes missing, I know exactly who took it  < squinty eyes, these eyes are looking at you mom… >

I'm so excited to hang these up in my sewing room, my empty wall will look so much better!

Thank you so much Emily!  It is more than I could have ever wished for, I love everything!

Harvest Home Quilt Kit

Posted on October 16, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

We recently made this quilt for a store display, the pattern is called Harvest Home.  It turned out so cute that we decided to offer kits for it.

Most of the fabric it is a variety of Bonnie and Camille, with a few other favorites mixed in.  This quilt is perfect for fall, but doesn't scream autumn.  Sometimes, if you're like me and not ready for winter to come, a subtle holiday quilt can ease you into the chilly weather that's approaching.

We used one of our favorite quilting designs, called Adagio.

I've always wanted a house with a red door, apparently my subconscious remembered when I was picking out fabrics!

We are offering kits in a limited quantity, once they're gone they're gone; so make sure you don't wait too long if you want one!

Gooseberry by Lella Boutique

Posted on October 14, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

We ordered the most beautiful line, it's called Gooseberry by Lella Boutique.  The colors are simply gorgeous, pinks, berry, aqua, navy... drool.  I had a lot of fun playing with the fat quarters this afternoon, trying to decide what to make for a store display.

You may recognize this fabric, we longarmed the Kaleidoscope for Vanessa before Spring Quilt Market.  I had an advance look at how stunning this fabric really is, the possibilities are endless with what to make!

I obviously had a lot of fun photographing these fat quarters, I mean really, not like I had to do much to make them look good!

Sew Scary Pillows

Posted on October 10, 2015 by Jenn Thurston | 0 comments

It's no secret that I love pillows, in fact besides quilts they're probably my favorite thing to make!  We just got in the most adorable Halloween fabric called Sew Scary... and I just knew I had to make pillows from them!  Now if you look at the fabric you'll notice it's a panel, and it would make super cute bunting (as intended) but I really like how the pillows turn out!

The pillow covers I made are 12" x 16" and you can squeeze four pillows from one panel (if you use a backing other than the panel)!  Let's talk about this backing, have you ever seen anything as cute as this?!  It's a Bingo card, and the free space is "BOO".  So clever!

I love invisible zippers too!  Once you install one in a pillow case you'll never go back to those pesky envelope backs that have a tendency to stretch over time!

Here's a close up of one of the pillows, the detail in the fabric is so adorable.  Probably one of my favorite Halloween prints, but I am a sucker for all things Halloween.

Finished pillow covers can be purchased at Pillow Hound
