Fancy Fox Baby Quilt

Some of our good friends are having their first baby, so you know what that means... I get to make a quilt for them!  So after much internal debate, I decided I wanted to do the Fancy Fox.  But, in typical Thurston fashion, I decided that in the last minute and we were out of the pattern.

So, I had to improvise and take a guess at the dimensions.  They came out a little larger than the pattern, but I'm alright with that!  In fact, I really like the size; they were fast to cut, fast to sew and they are just so darn cute!

This is my favorite of them, he's a lovely vibrant shade of green and the quilting shows up fabulously!

Speaking of quilting, this is one of my new favorite designs! It's called Super Star, and my husband says it would be perfect for a Captain America quilt (there may be one in Caleb's future... because he really needs another quilt...).

I am terrible about making quilt labels, but I knew I had to make one for this quilt.   I chose to do a machine embroidery label, which Urban Threads has the perfect trendy selection of embroidery quilt labels to choose from.

I'm not much for words, so I kept it short and simple - "Handmade by The Thurston Family for Hunter", I would have loved to include the year but his due date is the beginning of January so you just never know if he'll make an early appearance.

I also made a pillow for his nursery, the half square triangles were from the ears of the foxes and the back of the pillow is the extra from the backing of the quilt.

I really enjoyed making the pillow, simple echo stitches and reversible - it's a win-win!

Just one more photo, because I frankly can't control myself!
